GW/Textile Museum Opening Exhibits

Check out the brand-spanking new GW Museum & Textile Museum, with two exhibits on Washington DC:  its design and construction, and its expansion and “modernization” during the Civil War.  Also see their premier exhibit textiles and identity.

  1. Some highlights in the DC history side: (1) a giant wooden engraved printing plate–they farmed out little 2×2 pieces to different engravers in order to get it done quickly. (2) two different engravings of George Washington’s family, with the slave servant variously included or removed (what message was that sending?). (3) excellent old maps of DC.

Its free to students! GREAT place to take your parents if they visit at the end of the term!
